The MLB postseason is shaping up.
Wednesday night, the Yankees secured a playoff spot by defeating the Mariners in extra innings (NYY 2, SEA 1 in 10 innings). Earlier that day, the Brewers were the first to clinch a postseason berth by winning the NL Central title. So far, two of twelve playoff spots have been filled.
Anthony Rizzo’s clutch RBI double in the tenth inning sealed New York’s win. In an exciting twist, Julio RodrÃguez was picked off third base after straying too far while avoiding Randy Arozarena’s bat on a swinging strike three. Check out this wild moment:

The Yankees have only secured a wildcard spot for now. They need six more wins or Orioles’ losses to clinch the AL East title, which could happen as soon as Saturday.
Yankees’ Bigger Goals:
For New York, just making it to the playoffs isn’t enough. They aim to win the AL East and secure one of the top two records in the American League for a Wild Card Series bye. Currently leading with an 89-63 record, they are 1.5 games ahead of Cleveland Guardians.
Last year was rough for them with an 82-80 record—their worst since 1992 when they went 76-86. To bounce back, they traded for Juan Soto over winter who hit his 40th home run recently. The Yankees last won the World Series in 2009 and hope to end that drought this year.
Fans might be thrilled about these developments but also anxious about upcoming games.
Next up to possibly clinch playoff spots are the Guardians, Dodgers, and Phillies—maybe even as soon as Thursday! Like New York though, they’ll still need more wins to take their divisions despite leading right now.
What do you think? Can they make it all happen?
