Yankees Acquire Former Mets Infielder Amid Injuries

The New York Yankees have traded for J.D. Davis from the Oakland Athletics.

Davis, who is 31 years old, played 39 games with the Athletics and had a batting average of .236 with four home runs. Before that, he was with the San Francisco Giants and hit 26 home runs over 193 games. The Giants let him go after signing Matt Chapman, leading Davis to join the Athletics.

The Yankees needed Davis because they lost Anthony Rizzo and Giancarlo Stanton to injuries this week . Davis will likely play first base or be a designated hitter for the team. He might even face his old team, the Mets, in the upcoming Subway Series. However, his contract ends after this season.

Trade Details:

In return for Davis, the Yankees gave up Jordan Groshans, who is 24 years old and was picked 12th in the 2018 draft. Groshans hasn’t been performing well lately with a .590 OPS in minor-league games this season. He’s expected to be just an extra player for Oakland.

Fans might think this trade could help boost the Yankees’ lineup during these tough times.
