New York Yankees star Aaron Judge hit his 50th home run of the season on Sunday.
This two-run homer came off Rockies’ pitcher Austin Gomber. Judge has now hit 50 or more home runs in three different seasons, joining an elite group of players. Babe Ruth, Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa (each with four times), and Alex Rodriguez are the only others to achieve this feat.
Judge’s latest milestone marks the 49th time in MLB history a player has reached at least 50 home runs in a season. He first did it in his rookie year, 2017, and then again in 2022 when he smashed 62 homers, setting new records for both the American League and the Yankees franchise .
Judge’s Home Run Chase:
At age 32, Judge is on track to possibly hit over 60 home runs this season. If he does reach that number, he’ll join McGwire and Sosa as one of only three players to have multiple seasons with at least 60 homers. He’s currently pacing for about 62 home runs, which would match his own record from last year.
Fans might think it’s incredible how Judge keeps breaking these records!
Judge isn’t just making waves with single-season stats; he’s also climbing up the Yankees’ all-time home run list. With his current total at 307 career homers for the Yankees, he’s now seventh in franchise history. Here’s who stands ahead of him:
1. Babe Ruth – 659
2. Mickey Mantle – 536
3. Lou Gehrig – 493
4. Joe DiMaggio – 361
5. Yogi Berra – 358
6. Alex Rodriguez – 351
Interestingly enough, despite his hot streak, Judge recently mentioned he doesn’t feel completely “locked in” yet.
“I’m trying to get locked in,” Judge said after Friday’s game. “Once we get locked in, I’ll let you guys know.” He added that keeping things simple is key: “I try not to do too much every single day.”
What do you think? Will Judge break more records this season?
