Minnesota Twins’ Royce Lewis had to leave Tuesday’s game against the Detroit Tigers due to a groin injury.
He felt the tightness in his left groin during the sixth inning after hitting a two-run double, visibly slowing down as he ran. After the game, he mentioned that he would undergo imaging to determine how bad it was and didn’t seem hopeful about avoiding the injured list.
“Probably not very optimistic, to be honest with you,” Lewis said on Tuesday. “I’m praying, but it’s usually always horrible news. So we’ll see.”
Injury-Prone Career
Lewis, 25, has been plagued by injuries despite his superstar potential. Since being drafted first overall in 2017, he’s played fewer than 100 major league games. This season alone, in just 24 games, he’s hit .292/.354/.685 with 10 home runs and five extra-base hits.
Earlier this year, Lewis missed two months due to a partially torn quadriceps suffered on Opening Day. In previous seasons, he also tore his ACL twice in the same leg .
Fans might feel frustrated seeing him injured again when he’s been playing so well lately.
Twins’ Current Standings
The Twins have a record of 48-37 this season and are currently second in the American League Central division. They trail behind the Cleveland Guardians by six games but hold onto the second wild-card spot for now. Minnesota is ahead of both Kansas City Royals by two games and Boston Red Sox by 2½ games.
What do you think about Lewis’s chances of getting back soon?
