Twins’ Miranda Aims for MLB Record with 10 Straight Hits

José Miranda is about to make MLB history with his incredible hitting streak.

After getting a hit in 11 straight at-bats, Miranda’s streak was interrupted when he got hit by a pitch from Hunter Brown. However, he still managed to get a single in his first official at-bat on Saturday, setting a new record for the Twins with 10 consecutive hits.

Miranda is now just one hit away from tying the MLB record for most consecutive hits in at-bats, joining Walt Dropo (1952), Pinky Higgins (1938), and Johnny Kling (1902). He’s also only the third player since the Expansion Era to achieve this feat, following Dustin Pedroia (2016) and Bernie Williams (2002).

Miranda had an amazing game on Friday as DH, going 4-for-4 with a double and home run. The day before that, he went 5-for-5 and even got a hit in his last at-bat on Wednesday. By doing so, he broke the Twins’ all-time record for consecutive hits held by Tony Oliva (1967), Mickey Hatcher (1985), and Todd Walker (1998).

Breaking Records:

Fans might think this news is super exciting! During the game on Saturday, manager Rocco Baldelli decided to pinch-hit Austin Martin for Miranda while they were trailing by eight runs. They almost caught up but fell short by one run with Miranda’s spot coming up next when the final out happened.

“Those guys play every day and do great work,” said Baldelli. “In such a lopsided game, it made sense to give them some rest.”

Miranda has been one of this season’s biggest surprises. In 71 games so far, he’s batting .324/.364/.529 with nine homers and 21 extra-base hits. His OPS has jumped from .822 to .894 over just two games!
