The Minnesota Twins are bringing Carlos Correa back from the injured list for Saturday’s game against the Cincinnati Reds after a two-month break due to plantar fasciitis.
Before his injury, Correa played 75 games, hitting .308/.377/.520 with 13 home runs and 47 RBIs, contributing an estimated 3.3 Wins Above Replacement according to Baseball Reference.
This season will be only the second time in Correa’s career that he hasn’t played at least 100 games in a full season, with the first being in 2019.
Correa’s Return and Team Impact
Correa’s return is timely for the Twins as they currently lead by just 2.5 games over the Detroit Tigers for the last American League wild-card spot. The team has struggled this month with a record of 5-7, so they need all the help they can get to stay in playoff contention.
Keirsey Jr., who was called up earlier this month, will be sent back to Triple-A. He played four games but managed only one hit out of ten at-bats while filling in mainly for his defensive skills during Byron Buxton’s absence.
Fans might think this news could turn things around for the Twins .
Correa, Buxton, and Royce Lewis have only been on the field together 17 times this year before Saturday’s game. For Minnesota to keep their wild-card spot and possibly make a deep run in October, these key players need more time together on the field.
What do you think about Correa’s return? Will it boost their chances?
