This year’s MLB amateur draft wrapped up on Tuesday, starting with the Cleveland Guardians picking Travis Bazzana as their first-ever No. 1 pick on Sunday.
Most will now shift focus to trade deadlines, while scouts hit the road again for summer leagues, always on the lookout for new talent.
It’s never too early to think about next year’s draft. Here are five players from the 2025 class you should know about.
1. Ethan Holliday, SS/3B, Stillwater HS (OK)
Ethan Holliday is another big name in baseball. Son of Matt and brother of Jackson, he’s committed to Oklahoma State but likely won’t play there. A lefty hitter with a solid approach and potential power as he grows into his 6’4″ frame, he might move from shortstop to third base. Could the Hollidays make history with two No. 1 picks?
2. Jace LaViolette, OF, Texas A&M
Jace LaViolette stands out with his quiet setup and impressive strength. He loves hitting fly balls but strikes out a lot—nearly 30% in SEC play! If he reduces strikeouts next spring, he could be a top-five pick.

Fans might find this news exciting because it hints at future stars !
3. Cam Cannarella, CF, Clemson
Cam Cannarella’s numbers dipped from his freshman year during ACC play and his stolen bases dropped too—likely by design to keep him healthy. Despite this, his defense in center field and knack for contact make him one to watch next season.
4. Devin Taylor, LF, Indiana
Indiana hasn’t had a first-rounder since Kyle Schwarber in 2014—but Devin Taylor could change that! He’s shown strength and discipline at bat while cutting down strikeouts significantly—from nearly 19% to just over 13%. He’ll likely man left field as a pro.

5. Chase Shores, RHP, LSU
Chase Shores didn’t pitch this year due to Tommy John surgery but showed promise in ’23 with a powerful arsenal including an upper-90s fastball and a tiny ERA of just under two over 18 innings! His recovery timeline makes him an unpredictable yet intriguing prospect.
What do you think about these future stars?
