The Mets are on fire, looking to make it six straight wins as they host division rivals Philadelphia tonight at Citi Field. They barely held on for a 5-4 victory in Monday’s series opener, continuing their impressive early-season form.
Griffin Canning takes the mound for New York, aiming for his third straight win. The right-hander brings a solid 3.43 ERA into the matchup. He’ll face Phillies starter Cristopher Sanchez, who’s been equally hot with back-to-back wins and a career-high 12 strikeouts in his last start against San Francisco.
This NL East showdown is just one of 15 games on today’s MLB schedule.
Elsewhere, the Padres send Nick Pivetta (3-1, 1.57 ERA) to face Detroit’s Jack Flaherty. Chicago’s Shota Imanaga hosts the Dodgers’ Dustin May in a battle of pitchers with sub-2.25 ERAs. And Patrick Corbin leads the Rangers against Oakland’s Osvaldo Bido.
For tonight’s Mets-Phillies matchup, oddsmakers have set some interesting strikeout props. Sanchez’s line sits at 5.5 Ks, while Canning’s is 4.5.
According to computer simulations, Canning going Over 4.5 strikeouts looks like a strong play.
But that’s not even the best strikeout prop on today’s slate.
## Chris Bassitt Over 4.5 strikeouts (-121) vs. Astros
The 36-year-old Blue Jays starter has cleared this number in all four starts this season, including an impressive 10-strikeout performance against Atlanta last time out. He’s been particularly effective on the road, racking up 9 Ks against his former team, the Mets, earlier this month.
Houston’s lineup has been whiffing a lot lately, striking out 9 times Monday and 11 times the day before.
## Ryan Feltner Over 3.5 strikeouts (-115) vs. Royals
Feltner needs to bounce back after a rough outing against the Dodgers where he managed just one strikeout while walking six. But he showed what he’s capable of in his previous start, fanning 7 Brewers across six innings.
Kansas City has been striking out in bunches recently, with 11 Ks on Sunday and 9 on Friday against Detroit.
## Zack Littell Over 3.5 strikeouts (-126) vs. Diamondbacks
Still looking for his first win of 2025, Littell has gone over 3.5 strikeouts in three of his four starts. The 29-year-old has a decent track record against Arizona with 11 Ks in just 8⅓ innings across eight appearances.
While the Diamondbacks have struck out less than most teams this season, they’ve whiffed at least 9 times in each of their last six games, including double-digit strikeouts twice against the Cubs over the weekend.
## Jose Quintana Over 3.5 strikeouts (-127) vs. Giants
Quintana has been amazing for Milwaukee after starting the year in Triple-A. The 36-year-old lefty has allowed just one run in his first 12⅔ innings while winning both starts.
He’s faced San Francisco several times in his career, collecting 31 strikeouts over 34⅓ innings. This matchup looks promising since the Giants rank fourth in MLB with 212 strikeouts this season.
