The Phillies were down 6-1 in the first inning against Toronto but came back to win 10-9.
Kyle Schwarber started the game with a homer, breaking his longest home run drought since August 14. Later, he doubled and scored in the third inning, helping the Phillies cut Toronto’s lead to 6-3.
In the fourth inning, Schwarber hit another homer, making it 6-4. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. responded with a two-run shot in the sixth, pushing Toronto ahead 8-4.
The Big Comeback:
The seventh inning saw the Phillies tighten things up with a three-run rally. Schwarber’s RBI single was part of this effort . By then, he was already having an incredible night: 4 for 5 with two homers, a double, and three RBIs.
Then came an unforgettable moment in the ninth inning after seven foul balls:
REALLY REALLY GOOD JOB KYLE #RingTheBell
— Philadelphia Phillies (@Phillies)
That blast traveled at 114.4 mph and went 426 feet! This gave the Phillies a crucial 10-8 lead after being down by five runs twice during the game. Although Toronto scored once more in the ninth, it wasn’t enough; Philadelphia secured victory thanks to Schwarber’s phenomenal performance.
Fans might think this is one of Schwarber’s best games ever!
His box score read: 6-4-5-6. It doesn’t tell you about his three home runs and double that totaled up to fifteen bases! This marked his third career game with three homers—one last month and another back in 2021—and his fourth game with at least six RBIs (he’s hit seven twice). Plus, it was his first five-hit game (he’s had four four-hit games before).
Given how this match unfolded, it’s hard to imagine him having a bigger impact on any other game.
Meanwhile, both Atlanta Braves and New York Mets also won their games. So this big win helped keep Philadelphia seven games ahead of Atlanta and seven-and-a-half games ahead of New York.
