Miami Marlins manager Skip Schumaker told his players on Friday night that he won’t return for the 2025 season. He also mentioned he will miss the last two games of this season to handle a family matter.
Schumaker’s decision isn’t surprising. After Kim Ng left and Peter Bendix took over, Schumaker’s contract was changed, removing a club option for 2025. This makes him a top candidate for managerial positions in the upcoming offseason.
In his first year with Miami, Schumaker led the team to an 84-78 record and their first full-season playoff since 2003. They even made it to the postseason! Unfortunately, this year’s been rough with a 60-100 record so far.
Future Opportunities:
Now at age 44, Schumaker is likely to be in high demand. Teams like the Cincinnati Reds and Chicago White Sox might be interested in him. The Toronto Blue Jays and Colorado Rockies could also have openings soon.
Fans might think it’s exciting to see where he’ll end up next!
Another interesting option is the St. Louis Cardinals. Even though Oli Marmol is under contract until 2026, Schumaker has strong ties there from his playing days and time as bench coach.
What do you think about all these changes?
