Salvador Perez has been chosen as the winner of the 2024 Roberto Clemente Award. Before Game 3 of the World Series, he will be honored at Yankee Stadium, where the Dodgers face off against the Yankees.
The prestigious award is given to a Major League player who shows great character and helps their community while making positive contributions on and off the field. It was first introduced in 1971 and named after Clemente two years later, following his tragic death in a plane crash during a humanitarian mission.
Perez has done many good things outside baseball, like giving food and supplies to families in Venezuela, funding surgeries for kids with cleft lips, and working with groups to fight ALS.
Achievements On The Field:
This season, Perez batted .271/.330/.456 with 27 home runs and drove in 104 runs for the Royals. His performance helped them reach the playoffs for the first time since 2015 but they eventually lost to the Yankees in ALDS. Fans might think he’s had an amazing year! He also earned his ninth All-Star appearance this year.
Perez’s career is full of achievements: five Gold Glove Awards, four Silver Slugger Awards, a World Series win in 2015, plus being named Most Valuable Player during that championship.
Representing the game of Baseball through extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy, and positive contributions, both on and off the field.
