Rece Hinds made history in his first two Major League Baseball games.
In his debut on Monday, Hinds went 2 for 3, hitting a double and a 421-foot home run. On Tuesday, he hit another double, a triple, and a massive 458-foot homer. Although he struck out in his last at-bat and missed the cycle, the Reds won both games and improved their record to 44-48.
Could you believe this?! Rece Hinds takes one 458 feet as he hits home runs in the first two games of his career! https://twitter.com/MLB/status/1810861698409972013?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw
Hinds was drafted as a third baseman in the second round back in 2019. Despite being an unlikely candidate for such an achievement due to his .216/.290/.409 Triple-A stats this season, he’s shown remarkable power. He’s hit balls with exit velocities over 115 mph multiple times this year .
Fans might think this is just the beginning for him.
Big Power but High Strikeouts
Hinds has immense power, comparable to stars like Bobby Witt Jr., Yordan Alvarez, and Fernando Tatis Jr. However, his high strikeout rate—over 38% in Triple-A and more than 40% even now—has kept him lower on prospect lists. Teams today tolerate strikeouts more than before but those numbers are still very high.
Who cares about long-term sustainability right now? What matters is that Hinds has etched his name into baseball history books already. People still remember Aristides Aquino’s explosive rookie season with the Reds in 2019; maybe Hinds can make similar adjustments or maybe not. For now, he’s thrilling fans and helping his team win games.
