The Philadelphia Phillies recently made some changes in their front office, but nothing that will drastically change the team’s path.
Sam Fuld, who was the vice president and general manager, is moving from baseball operations to focus on business. Once he finishes his degree at Penn, he’ll be the Phillies’ president of business operations.
“I’m excited to take on this new challenge,” Fuld shared. “Working across both baseball and business operations is thrilling for me.”
Fuld was seen as a future leader in baseball management, so this shift is interesting.
Preston Mattingly will now step into Fuld’s old role as vice president of baseball operations and general manager. At 37, he’s also considered a rising talent in the front office world. Yes, he’s Don Mattingly’s son!

“The growth of Sam and Preston is amazing,” said Dombrowski. “They do great work, and these changes help keep our team strong for years.”
Fans might wonder if these moves will make the team better or just different.
The Phillies have been doing well lately; they won the NL pennant in 2022, returned to the NLCS in 2023, and took home 95 wins plus an NL East title in 2024. They haven’t clinched a World Series since 2008 but seem ready for another shot soon.
What do you think about these changes?
