The Phillies have put Ranger Suárez on the injured list due to back pain.
Kolby Allard has been called up from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to take his place. Suárez was supposed to pitch in Sunday’s game against the Guardians but now needs time off. This season, Suárez has been amazing with a 2.87 ERA and a solid 4.30 strikeout-to-walk ratio, making him one of the team’s top players.
Suárez is not the only pitcher on the Phillies dealing with injuries. Taijuan Walker and Spencer Turnbull have also been out since June, leading to Tyler Phillips joining the rotation. Phillips is set to make his third start for Philadelphia on Saturday .
Allard’s Career and Current Season:
Kolby Allard, picked 14th overall in 2015, has had a mixed career so far. In six seasons in the majors, he holds a high ERA of 6.10 and a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 2.43. This year in Triple-A, he’s posted a 5.60 ERA over 72 innings.
Fans might be wondering if this move will help or hurt their chances.
The Phillies are doing great this season with a record of 64-39, leading by nine games over the Mets—the biggest lead in MLB right now.
Trade Deadline Moves:
Remember that MLB’s trade deadline is coming up soon on July 30th! The Phillies already made waves by trading Seranthony Domínguez and Cristian Pache to Baltimore for Austin Hays last Friday.
