The Phillies and Orioles made a big trade on Friday.
Philadelphia got Austin Hays, while Baltimore received Seranthony Domínguez and Cristian Pache. This move is unusual because both teams are contenders.
Hays, 29, is expected to pair well with Brandon Marsh due to his better performance against left-handed pitchers. So far this season, he’s hitting .255/.316/.395 with three home runs and 13 doubles. Last year, he was an All-Star with a .275 average, 16 homers, and five stolen bases. Hays can play all outfield positions but usually sticks to the corners. Plus, he’s under contract for another season .
Domínguez is a reliever known for his slider-fastball combo and will be available through next season if the club wants him. This year in 38 games, he has a 4.75 ERA but has shown better numbers in past seasons like a 124 ERA+. He excels at limiting hard contact from hitters.
Trade Details:
Pache’s offense has dipped after doing well last year. In 50 games this season, he’s batting .202 with no home runs or stolen bases. However, his defense remains top-notch which Baltimore will likely use to their advantage.
Fans might think this trade could shake things up for both teams in interesting ways.
