The All-Star break is coming soon, and the trade deadline follows on July 30.
Teams are starting to make moves and rumors are flying around. Let’s dive into some of the latest news.
The Dodgers are having a tough time with many players injured, especially their star pitchers like Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Tyler Glasnow, Clayton Kershaw, Walker Buehler, Dustin May, Tony Gonsolin, and Emmet Sheehan. They hope Kershaw and Glasnow will be back by the end of this month according to Jon Morosi from MLB Network. However, they’re still looking for trades to strengthen their rotation.
Right now, they’re leaning on James Paxton and Gavin Stone while Bobby Miller’s struggles have sent him back to the minors. With a seven-game lead in the NL West , they need to stay strong despite all these injuries.
Phillies Release Merrifield
The Phillies decided to call up Weston Wilson and let go of Whit Merrifield. Merrifield has been an All-Star three times but is struggling this season with a .199/.277/.295 batting line. Last year he was good until he fell off in the second half.
Wilson is 29 years old and has mostly played in the minors. He did play eight MLB games last season and two this year. In his 26 plate appearances so far, he’s hitting .250/.423/.400 and even hit a home run in his first at-bat last August.
Nats Release Senzel
The Nationals have put Nick Senzel on release waivers. Senzel was once picked second overall but never quite lived up to expectations. This season he’s hitting .209/.303/.359 with 10 doubles, seven homers, 18 RBI, and 25 runs over 64 games with a -0.5 WAR rating.
Fans might feel sad seeing these changes but understand it’s part of the game .
Senzel will likely find another team soon but at age 29 it seems like his days as an everyday player might be over.
