Phillies Castellanos Names Surprising NL MVP Choice

Nick Castellanos just dropped a wild take about who should’ve won MVP last season, and it’s not who you’d expect.

The Phillies outfielder thinks Jose Iglesias – yes, you read that right – deserved the National League MVP award over Shohei Ohtani.

Castellanos made his surprising pick during a chat with Chris Rose on Jomboy Media, and his reasoning was pretty interesting.

“If you’re looking at the MVP as having the most weight on creating wins for your team, there’s no other player that has had that much weight as Jose Iglesias,” Castellanos explained.

He pointed to Iglesias’s impact on the Mets’ clubhouse culture, especially with the Latin players. According to Castellanos, Iglesias helped superstar Francisco Lindor get his groove back and gave young Mark Vientos the confidence to become an everyday third baseman.

There’s just one tiny problem with this take.

Iglesias played in just 85 games last season – barely half the year. He hit .337 with four homers and 26 RBIs. Nice numbers, but not exactly MVP stuff.

Meanwhile, Ohtani was making history with the Dodgers. He became the first player ever to rack up 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases in a single season, leading his team to a World Series championship.

To be fair, Iglesias did make his mark on the Mets in other ways. He even released a song called “OMG” that became the team’s unofficial anthem, with fans waving OMG signs throughout the season.

But MVP? That might be taking things a bit too far, even for the always-colorful Castellanos.
