Phillies Activate Alec Bohm from IL

Third baseman Alec Bohm is back with the Philadelphia Phillies as they close in on the National League East title for 2024.

Bohm had been out since Aug. 29 due to a wrist injury he got while batting against the Atlanta Braves. The Phillies waited until Sept. 6 to make any roster changes, hoping he’d avoid the injured list, but that didn’t happen. Now, he’s back from his rehab assignment and on the active roster. To make space for him, they designated catcher Aramis Garcia for assignment.

Bohm’s return is crucial for the Phillies. This year has been a breakout season for him with a .290/.343/.462 slash line and 13 home runs in 131 games. Despite missing some time, he leads the NL with 44 doubles . Other third basemen on his team have struggled without him, hitting just .202/.280/.345 combined.

Phillies’ Playoff Push:

On Sunday, Bohm will bat fifth in their game against the New York Mets. The Phillies have an eight-game lead in their division, making it almost certain they’ll clinch their first division title since 2011 soon. This is surprising because the Braves have dominated this division recently but injuries slowed them down this season.

Fans might think it’s exciting to see how far this team can go with Bohm back in action.

With Bohm rejoining, it looks like a division title and maybe even a first-round bye are within reach for Philly.

Do you think Bohm’s return will push them over the top?
