The Baltimore Orioles had a tough time in the Wild Card Series, getting swept by the Kansas City Royals. Despite this setback, Mike Elias confirmed that Brandon Hyde will continue as manager for the 2025 season.
Even though they won 91 games in the regular season, 2024 was still a letdown for the Orioles. They have an amazing group of young players and even added Corbin Burnes last winter. In 2023, they won the American League East with 101 victories but lost to the Texas Rangers in the Division Series. This year, their performance dropped by ten wins, and they were just average from July onward.
Hyde recently turned 51 and has been managing the Orioles for six seasons now. His record stands at 406-464 (.467), with three winning seasons and two playoff appearances. The early years were rough due to a rebuilding phase under Elias; they went 54-108 in his first year and struggled during shortened seasons after that. However, things improved with a winning record in 2022, setting up playoff runs in both 2023 and 2024.
Challenges Ahead:
In 2025, Hyde faces big expectations to not only reach but also succeed in October’s playoffs. Yet, there’s an issue: team payroll is still low for a serious contender. Plus, Elias is cautious about trading top prospects to fill major league gaps.
Fans might wonder if this approach will finally pay off or if changes are needed soon.
What do you think? Can Hyde lead them further next season?
