The White Sox have traded Eloy Jiménez to the Orioles, according to ESPN.
Jiménez’s contract includes over $13 million this season and two club options with $3 million buyouts each. If not picked up, that’s $6 million total. The 2025 option is $16.5 million, and the 2026 option is $18.5 million.
In 65 games this season, Jiménez has a .240/.297/.345 line with nine doubles, five homers, 16 RBI, and -0.7 WAR .
Trade Details and Background:
Once a prized Cubs prospect traded for José Quintana along with Dylan Cease, Jiménez debuted at age 22 in 2019 for the White Sox. He hit 31 home runs in just 468 at-bats that year and won a Silver Slugger in the shortened 2020 season but faced many issues afterward.
Injuries have plagued Jiménez throughout his career. Often due to collisions with outfield walls, he’s now mainly a designated hitter (only eight innings in the outfield this season).
Fans might think this trade could rejuvenate his career.
Orioles GM Mike Elias likely hopes that moving from one of MLB’s worst teams to a first-place team will help Jiménez rediscover his form. He’s still young enough to turn things around given his potential upside.
Orioles’ Lineup Adjustments:
The Orioles primarily use Ryan O’Hearn as their DH (44 starts) but also use Adley Rutschman there when he’s not catching (32 starts). It’ll be intriguing to see how they fit Jiménez into their lineup while aiming for victories.
