The Dodgers are leading the World Series 3-0, but all eyes are on Ohtani’s shoulder issue.
During the game’s introductions, Ohtani showed up with a brace to keep his shoulder warm, as suggested by trainers. In his first at-bat, he managed a walk without swinging and kept close to first base, not planning to steal any bases for now. His swings seemed awkward in later appearances; he grounded out while holding his left arm tight against his body.
Ohtani explained through an interpreter that he was protecting his shoulder during runs to avoid using it if sliding became necessary. Fans might feel worried about how this injury could affect the series.
Game Performance:
His next time at bat involved some fouls before striking out with another uncomfortable swing. By the fourth appearance, after popping foul and fouling out again, he ran normally with his left arm but still appeared off balance. In the ninth inning, Ohtani was hit by a pitch and then forced out at second base without much effort—no slide attempt here.
“If it was my right shoulder, my swing would be affected,” Ohtani mentioned via an interpreter. “Luckily it’s my left.” Interestingly enough, despite everything going on with him physically, his bat speed actually exceeded regular-season numbers! Roberts confirmed that strength tests were passed before allowing him to play; however, something seems amiss as he’s not fully himself.
Should the Yankees muster up some offense and rally back into contention (though unlikely), this injury could play a big role in shaping outcomes since such a key player is hindered by it.
What do you think? Is there hope for recovery soon?
