Nats Righty Gray to Undergo Elbow Surgery

Washington Nationals pitcher Josiah Gray, an All-Star this year, is set for elbow surgery next week due to a partial tear in his ulnar collateral ligament.

Gray, 26, only played twice in the major leagues this season. He was on a rehab assignment until late June when he had a setback that revealed this injury.

A relatively new procedure called an internal brace might be an option for Gray. It’s less invasive than Tommy John surgery and has a shorter recovery time. However, it’s not yet clear if he will need this or another type of surgery .

Gray’s Career and Trade History:

Gray joined the Nationals as part of the Max Scherzer trade in 2021. Since then, he has become a solid starter for the team. Last year, he had a 3.91 ERA and made his first All-Star Game appearance. Over his career, he’s recorded a 4.84 ERA in almost 400 innings.

The Nationals have struggled recently with a record of 44-53 as of Friday. They are far behind in both their division and the wild-card race after losing six out of their last eight games.

Fans might feel disappointed about Gray’s injury news because they hoped for better results from him this season.

The Nationals will continue their season on Friday against the Cincinnati Reds.
