The MLB trade deadline is approaching on July 30, and teams are deciding if they should buy or sell players.

With less than three weeks left, it’s still unclear which teams will make moves. Some teams have separated themselves as buyers or sellers, but many are still in the mix for a playoff spot.

Obvious Sellers

The White Sox haven’t even reached 30 wins yet. The Angels face double-digit deficits in both their division and wild-card race, making another playoff-less season likely for Mike Trout’s team. The Athletics are far from being contenders but have some valuable players to trade. The Marlins had a disastrous start with an 0-9 record and haven’t recovered since. The Rockies don’t have much to offer but continue to struggle.

The Orioles sit at the top with a strong position-playing prospect depth but need more pitching help . The Yankees, struggling after having the best record in baseball, need to make moves urgently. Fans might think this is their last chance to turn things around! The Guardians are fighting for the best record in the American League despite having one of the worst rotations. After winning a playoff series last year, the Twins look like they could go deep if everything goes right.

The Royals are just outside an AL wild-card spot and have been aggressive recently; why stop now? The Mariners broke their playoff drought two seasons ago but need offensive help badly. With seven straight ALCS appearances, the Astros will surely try to buy more starting pitching due to injuries and maybe add a power bat at first base.

The Phillies boast two straight NLCS appearances and hold the best record in baseball; even small tweaks could help them stay on top. The Brewers already traded for Aaron Civale; expect minor adjustments rather than big moves from them. Slow starters turned hot streakers, the Cardinals’ offseason moves show they’re aiming high this season.

Despite injuries depleting their pitching staff, the Dodgers remain obvious playoff contenders with vast resources at their disposal. Facing rotation issues again due to Joe Musgrove’s injury and Yu Darvish’s personal leave, Padres’ A.J. Preller will likely be active in making trades.
