The 2024 MLB All-Star Game rosters for both the American League and National League have been announced.
There will be some injury replacements and additional pitchers added, but a few deserving players were left out. Here’s a look at those who missed the cut.
Presenting the All-Snub Team:
Catcher:
Patrick Bailey, Giants. Bailey has been excellent behind the plate and solid offensively with a 120 OPS+. With only two catchers selected for the NL, he just missed out. Some argue that each league should take three catchers.
First Baseman:
Christian Walker, Diamondbacks. Known for his stellar defense and power-hitting prowess, Walker has already hit 22 homers this season with 64 RBIs. The Diamondbacks have only one All-Star this year; adding Walker would make sense.
Second Baseman:
Brice Turang, Brewers. This young player is hitting .280 with a .350 on-base percentage and has successfully stolen 29 bases out of 34 attempts so far.
In baseball news, fans might feel these players deserved a spot in the All-Star Game.
Third Baseman:
Jordan Westburg, Orioles. A surprising omission, Westburg is hitting .281 with a .506 slugging percentage. He’s filled up the stat sheet with doubles, triples, homers, RBIs, runs scored, and even stolen bases.
Shortstop:
Francisco Lindor, Mets. Despite batting just .250 (league average is .242), Lindor excels in other areas like runs scored (top 10), doubles (25), homers (15), steals (16) while playing great defense at shortstop.
Outfielders:
Willi Castro, Twins. Castro’s stats are impressive: slashing .271/.357/.438 with numerous doubles and triples along with seven homers and ten steals.
Anthony Santander, Orioles. Though three Orioles made it to the All-Star team already , Santander’s power numbers (23 homers) make him worthy of consideration.
Brandon Nimmo, Mets. Nimmo may not hit for high average but boasts strong OPS numbers thanks to his walks and power displays including doubles and home runs coupled with perfect steal rate this season.
Fans might think these snubs are unfair given their performances so far!
Designated Hitter:
Brent Rooker from Athletics deserves recognition too! With an impressive batting line of .278/.353/.537 along with 18 home runs & 54 RBIs despite Athletics having only one representative in Mason Miller initially chosen as their sole all-star player!
Starting Pitchers:
Ronel Blanco from Astros would’ve been an incredible story! Despite limited innings before this season due to injuries thrusting him into rotation where he now stands at eight wins against three losses alongside remarkable ERA & WHIP figures plus throwing no-hitter!
Cristopher Sanchez representing Phillies holds lowest home run rate among pitchers while maintaining solid ERA stats making him another notable exclusion!
George Kirby from Mariners also shines bright through consistent strikeout-to-walk ratio showcasing his control over games pitched!
Joe Ryan from Twins mirrors Kirby’s efficiency albeit slightly lesser extent yet still commendable enough warranting mention here!
Jake Irvin standing tall amongst Nationals’ rotation keeping them competitive within wildcard race thanks largely due stellar performances throughout starts made thus far!
What do you think about these snubbed players? Do you agree they should’ve made it?
