MLB All-Star Game Best Bets: Low-Scoring Prediction

The MLB All-Star Game is happening on Tuesday, July 16 at 8 p.m. ET.

Expect the start to be delayed by about 15 minutes due to opening festivities. It’s always amusing to hear who gets booed the loudest during player introductions. While we can’t bet on that, there are other ways to enjoy some action.

Before diving in, remember: betting on the All-Star Game is a gamble. Only wager small amounts for fun, like $5 or whatever you consider pocket change. The game’s outcome is unpredictable since we never know which matchups will decide it.

National League to win

The NL broke a nine-game losing streak against the AL last year. Just because the AL had a winning streak doesn’t mean they were always better; baseball can be surprising! For instance, the Cubs recently swept the Orioles even though the Orioles are generally stronger.

Given how unpredictable this game is, I’m going with the underdog for better odds. Both teams have an almost equal chance of winning, so why not pick the one with a higher payout? Analyzing rosters deeply would be pointless here—just choose and go for it!

Under 7.5 runs

This bet deserves serious thought. The last four All-Star Games had fewer than 7.5 runs scored, and that’s our line here too. Despite having top-notch hitters, league batting averages hover around .243 because pitchers are incredibly skilled and defenses are tighter than ever.

Remember that only elite pitchers make it to this game —making hits even harder to come by! Pitchers usually get worse as they face batters multiple times in a game, but here no pitcher will face any hitter more than once—a huge advantage for them.

Expect low scores overall; maybe a home run or two but not many rallies with multiple hits strung together.

Paul Skenes exacta strikeouts

Can you guess how many strikeouts Paul Skenes will get?

  • Zero strikeouts: +205
  • One strikeout: +130
  • Two strikeouts: +225
  • Three or more strikeouts: +525

Skenes is great at striking out batters and these AL players haven’t faced him yet, which gives him an edge. Steven Kwan might be tricky though; he’s tough to strike out! But hey, let’s just guess for fun!

I’m betting on three strikeouts because it’s exciting and offers big returns!
