Mets Win Five Straight After Grimace’s First Pitch

The New York Mets have had a tough 2024 season so far.

But something unexpected might have turned things around for them. On June 12, before playing the Miami Marlins, they celebrated Grimace’s birthday by letting the McDonald’s mascot throw the first pitch. Since then, they’ve won five games in a row.

Grimace’s pitch wasn’t great; it missed home plate by several inches . But that night, the Mets beat their rivals, the Marlins, 10-4 and took two out of three games in that series. They just swept the San Diego Padres too!

Winning Streak and Standings:

In their series against the Padres, they scored 18 runs while only giving up 8 over three games. This was huge because it’s been 18 years since they last swept San Diego.

Now, thanks to this winning streak, they’re climbing up in the standings. The Mets are just 1.5 games behind for a Wild Card spot in the National League—the spot currently held by those same Padres.

Fans might be thinking this could be their turning point.

Next up for New York is a six-game road trip starting with three games against last year’s World Series champs, the Texas Rangers.

What do you think about Grimace bringing good luck?
