Mets Sweep Subway Series Against Yankees

The New York Mets swept the Yankees for the first time since 2013 with a big 12-3 win.

They had already won two home games against the Yankees in June and a close game on Tuesday. This sweep means they outscored their rivals 36-14 this season, which is impressive given their usual struggles against them. James Smyth pointed out that the Mets have only won five of 28 Subway Series interleague matches.

In Wednesday’s game, the Mets hit five home runs, three off Gerrit Cole. Francisco Lindor hit two homers, bringing his season total to 21. He’s been playing like an MVP since May and joined a special group of players:

On the Yankees’ side, Juan Soto went 2 for 3 with a homer and a double while walking once. Cole now has an ERA of 5.40 due to elbow issues from spring that delayed his start until June.

Impact on Standings:

This win was huge for the Mets in more ways than one. They are now five games over .500 for the first time this season at 53-48. It’s quite a comeback considering they were down by eleven games below .500 on June 2nd but have gone on a remarkable run of winning since then (29-13). Now they’re holding onto second wild-card spot in National League and just behind Braves in NL East.

Fans might think this turnaround is amazing!

As for Yankees, they’ve had a rough July with only six wins out of eighteen games but are still in playoff contention and close to AL East-leading Orioles.
