The New York Mets tied with the San Diego Padres for the last National League wild-card spot by beating the Washington Nationals 7-0 on Thursday.
Brandon Nimmo kept his hot streak going, driving in three runs with a fifth-inning double. He had already homered in his last three games, racking up six RBIs. J.D. Martinez, Pete Alonso, Mark Vientos, and Harrison Bader also contributed to the scoreboard.
David Peterson pitched a strong game for the Mets, allowing no runs over six innings while giving up just four hits and three walks. His ERA now stands at 3.09 .

Phil Maton made his debut for the Mets after being traded from the Tampa Bay Rays. He pitched a scoreless seventh inning and struck out two batters. Fans might think this new addition could be a game-changer for upcoming matches.

New York’s record is now 47-45 as they face off against the Colorado Rockies before heading into the All-Star break. Five other NL teams are close behind them within five games of that final wild-card spot: Arizona Diamondbacks, San Francisco Giants, Pittsburgh Pirates, Chicago Cubs, and Cincinnati Reds.
