The New York Mets secured their ninth consecutive victory on Saturday, shutting out the Cincinnati Reds 4-0.
This win puts the Mets ahead of the Atlanta Braves for the final National League wild-card spot, thanks to the Braves’ loss to the Toronto Blue Jays.
The Mets didn’t get a hit off Reds starter Jakob Junis until the fifth inning. But in the sixth inning, Harrison Bader smashed a solo home run . Pete Alonso followed with an RBI single, and J.D. Martinez added two more runs with a double, making it 4-0.

Jose Quintana pitched brilliantly for 6 2/3 innings without allowing a run. He struck out six batters and gave up five hits and two walks. Three relievers finished the game strong, giving up just one hit and striking out four more batters. Edwin DÃaz closed out the ninth inning but didn’t earn a save.
Playoff Push:
With this win, the Mets improved to 78-64 for the season and have not lost in September yet. They had a decent first half of 49-46 but have been on fire since then with a 29-18 record after the All-Star break. Fans are excited about their playoff chances now!
However, not all news was good for them. Jeff McNeil broke his wrist on Friday night after being hit by a pitch and is likely out for the rest of regular season . There’s still hope he might return if they make it to playoffs.
What do you think about this? Will they keep winning?
