Tuesday night, the Mets triumphed over the Phillies with a score of 7-2, moving closer to the NLCS. Sean Manaea was outstanding on the mound, giving up just one run over seven innings.
Manaea’s performance was even more impressive considering he played with a heavy heart after learning about his Aunt Mabel’s passing earlier that day. “That game was for her,” he said.
During his exit from the field, Manaea looked to the sky in tribute to his aunt. Last week, Brandon Nimmo faced similar emotions when his grandfather passed away before a crucial game against the Brewers.
Manaea’s Remarkable Turnaround:
This October has been different for Manaea compared to past postseasons where he struggled with a 15.26 ERA. Now, he’s allowed only three runs in 12 innings. Fans might think he’s found new strength and focus this year.

Manager Carlos Mendoza praised Manaea’s fearless approach against an aggressive lineup: “He didn’t back down from contact… He trusted his stuff.” His use of all pitches, especially the changeup, showed confidence and skill.
Mendoza noticed something special in Manaea’s presence on the mound that day: “There was something different about him today that I’m just proud of him.”
As Manaea approaches free agency at age 32, opting out of his $13.5 million salary seems likely. Whether he stays with the Mets or not will depend on negotiations—and probably a higher price tag.
What do you think? Will Manaea stay with New York or find a new team?
