Marlins Release Tim Anderson

The Miami Marlins have decided to let go of Tim Anderson, a seasoned shortstop. They announced this on Tuesday and will bring up Xavier Edwards from the minors.

Anderson, who is 31 years old, signed a $5 million deal for one year with hopes of bouncing back after a tough 2023 season. But things didn’t go as planned. He ended up hitting just .214/.237/.226 in 65 games and struck out in 28.2% of his at-bats, which was the highest rate in his career. He only managed three extra-base hits out of 234 at-bats.

In an ironic twist, Anderson made an error on Sunday against the Phillies, marking his last game with the Marlins .

It’s uncertain what lies ahead for Anderson. Despite being a two-time All-Star and a former batting champ with a career OPS+ of 95, he has struggled recently with just a 51 OPS+ over his last 765 plate appearances. To get another shot in the majors, he might need to prove himself again in Triple-A.

What’s Next for the Marlins?

The Marlins are having a rough season with a record of 30-54 as of Tuesday. With Anderson gone, their options at shortstop include Edwards and Vidal Bruján. Edwards has played in 33 major league games so far and has hit .287/.333/.333 (80 OPS+).

Fans might think this move shows how serious the team is about making changes.

The Marlins are expected to trade more players before the July 30 deadline. So, Anderson probably won’t be the only notable player leaving Miami soon.

What do you think about all these changes?
