The Miami Marlins have put Jesús Luzardo on the injured list for 15 days due to a back issue.
This change was made retroactive to June 19, as Luzardo hasn’t pitched since June 16. To fill his spot, they called up Shaun Anderson from Triple-A.
Skip Schumaker mentioned that Luzardo might be out for four to six weeks . This is important because Luzardo could be traded before the July 30 deadline, but if he’s out too long, he won’t return in time. The Marlins are struggling with a 26-49 record and are looking to trade players, but now Luzardo might not be one of them. Peter Bendix and the front office hope he recovers faster than expected.
Luzardo has had a rough season so far with a 5.00 ERA in 66⅔ innings. But last year, he was much better with a 3.48 ERA over many starts and more than 200 strikeouts.
Trade Value Complications:
His potential trade value is high because he’s young and won’t be a free agent until after the 2026 season. Teams would love to have him due to his strikeout skills and recent success before this year. However, now it seems like any trade involving him might have to wait until winter.
Fans might think this injury news is really bad timing for the team.
