Juan Soto hit three home runs in a game for the first time on Tuesday.
He had 190 career homers before, but never three in one game. In the Yankees’ 4-1 win over the White Sox, Soto scored three of their four runs and drove in all four RBI.
Everyone was watching Aaron Judge, hoping he’d hit his 300th homer, but it was Soto who stole the show.
Soto’s first homer:
Then came the second:
His second homer wasn’t new territory for him. It was his 23rd two-homer game and sixth this season. Last year, he had five such games. Just last Sunday, he hit two homers in a game again .
Career Night for Soto:
The third homer made it a night to remember for Soto.
In playoff games, he’s hit seven homers but never more than one per game. On Tuesday night, he almost became the 17th player to hit four homers in a single game but ended up walking instead. He swung hard at a bad pitch and laughed about it afterward.
Fans might think it’s amazing how quickly he’s racking up these stats!
These three home runs bring his total to 33 this season. His career high is 35 from last year. With 41 games left this season, it’s likely he’ll set a new personal best and maybe even reach 40 homers like Judge has already done.
Only Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig (three times) and Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle (1961) have both reached 40 homers in the same season as teammates.
Remember, Soto will be a free agent after this season ends.
