Oh boy, Jorge Soler’s packing his bags for San Fran!
. We’re talking a hefty $42 million deal over three years,
.
Soler, that powerhouse from the Marlins? Yep, he’s the one. Made the All-Star team in 2023. And now, he might just grace right field with his presence. But, let’s be real. His sweet spot? It’s the DH zone.
The man’s 31. Last season? Oh, he was on fire. Batting .250/.341/.512. Plus, 36 homers, 75 RBI, and 77 runs. Not to mention a solid 1.8 WAR. When he’s not benched with injuries, Soler’s smashing home runs left, right, and center.
Remember 2019? Led the AL with 48 homers. And last season? Those 36 home runs came from just 504 at-bats. Post-Braves trade in 2021, he hit 14 homers in 208 at-bats. Then, bam, World Series MVP.
But, ah, the injuries. They’ve been a thorn in his side. Defense? Not his forte. Sticking to DH might just keep him off the injured list. Played 137 games last season, a personal third-best.
Yet, 2022 was rough, with only 72 games. Over 10 years, he’s crossed the 100-game mark just four times. Sure, 2020 was a thing, and there were those early Cubs days. But injuries have been a constant shadow.
When he’s in the game, though, watch out. Home run threat? Absolutely. Among active players, he’s 15th in home runs per at-bat. And in MLB history? Sits proudly at 84th. That’s right, one of the top 100 power hitters ever.
On average, Soler’s knocking out 32 homers every 162 games. The Giants? They’ve been craving this kind of firepower. No one’s hit 30 homers in a season for them since Barry Bonds’ 45 in 2004. Talk about a drought!
