The Baltimore Orioles have called up Jackson Holliday from Triple-A Norfolk.
This marks his second stint in the majors, following a brief and challenging debut earlier in the year. During his initial 10-game run, he struggled with a .059 batting average, striking out 18 times while walking twice. Since then, he’s improved significantly in Triple-A, hitting .259/.421/.455 with eight home runs and almost as many walks as strikeouts over 63 games. After dealing with elbow inflammation in June, he came back strong with a .932 OPS and 12 extra-base hits in just 23 games.
Holliday was ranked as the top prospect by CBS Sports at the beginning of the season. They wrote:
> “Holliday should not be able to exceed expectations. He was the No. 1 pick in the 2022 draft, and his father Matt was a seven-time All-Star. He should be burdened with unobtainable forecasts. Yet Holliday has consistently bested the best-case scenario since his high school senior year… Given his demonstrated ability to overachieve, it would be foolish to bet against him making an impact at the big-league level in 2024.”
Roster Changes:
Baltimore’s roster has seen several new faces lately . At the trade deadline, they added Eloy Jiménez, Cristian Pache, Austin Slater, Zach Eflin, Trevor Rogers, Seranthony DomÃnguez, and Gregory Soto.
Soto was activated on Wednesday too! Meanwhile catcher Blake Hunt and versatile player Terrin Vavra were sent down to Triple-A.
Fans might think this is an exciting time for Baltimore’s future.
