New York Yankees star Aaron Judge smashed his 49th home run of the season on Friday night, leading to a win against the Colorado Rockies.
This sixth-inning homer put New York ahead 3-0 and extended Judge’s streak to four games with a home run. With five homers and eight RBIs since Tuesday, he’s on fire.
The amazing part? Judge says he’s not even in top form yet. “I’m trying to get locked in. Once we get locked in, I’ll let you guys know,” Judge told reporters after Friday’s game. “I try to keep it simple. The best thing I can say is, I try not to do too much every single day. We’ve got a great lineup, we’ve got a great team. If we just go out there and do our jobs, good things are going to happen.”
In August alone, Judge has hit .433/.558/.955 with 10 home runs and 20 RBIs over 19 games. Imagine what he could do if he felt fully “locked in.”
Judge’s Impressive Season:
Throughout this season, Judge has been phenomenal with a .333/.464/.728 batting line, including 49 home runs and 119 RBIs. His performance is worth an estimated 9.1 Wins Above Replacement (WAR), according to Baseball Reference.
If he surpasses 61 home runs this season, he’ll be close to his career-high of 62 from 2022—a record for both the American League and Yankees franchise.
Should Judge again clear the 60-homer threshold, he’ll become just the third player in Major League Baseball history to pull off the feat twice—joining Mark McGwire (1998, 1999) and Sammy Sosa (1998, 1999, 2001). Of course, Barry Bonds holds the single-season record with his astounding 73 homers in 2001.
Fans might think it’s incredible how consistent he is at hitting these milestones.
Judge and the Yankees will continue their series against the Rockies on Saturday with Bradley Blalock starting for Colorado—who hasn’t allowed a homer yet in his short big-league career.
What do you think about Judge’s chances of breaking more records?
