Giants Rookie Fitzgerald Homers Five Straight Games

San Francisco rookie Tyler Fitzgerald made history on Tuesday night by hitting a home run in five straight games.

His second-inning homer against Dodgers’ righty Landon Knack had an exit velocity of 104 mph and traveled 379 feet. According to Statcast, it would have been a home run in 29 out of 30 MLB parks, except for Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Here’s the video of that homer:

Sarah Langs from MLB’s research noted that Fitzgerald is the eighth Giants player to achieve this feat. The others include legends like Barry Bonds, Robby Thompson, Jack Clark, Willie Mays, Walker Cooper, Mel Ott, and George Kelly. Interestingly, Fitzgerald is the only rookie among them .

Fitzgerald has been impressive this season with a .277/.338/.529 slash line and seven homers in his first 48 games. He primarily plays shortstop but has also covered center field and various infield spots. Drafted in the fourth round back in 2019 from Louisville.

Giants’ Current Standings:

The Giants are currently struggling with a 48-53 record, trailing the Dodgers by 12 games in the NL West. However, they are just four games behind in the wild-card race after the Mets defeated the Yankees on Tuesday.

Fans might think this news brings some hope for the team’s future prospects.
