Giants Promote Minasian Jr. to GM

The San Francisco Giants have a new general manager, Zack Minasian Jr., as announced by the team on Friday.

Previously serving as the vice president of professional scouting since 2022, Minasian now steps up to be second in command, working closely with Buster Posey in baseball operations.

Before joining the Giants’ front office in 2019, Minasian spent 14 years with the Milwaukee Brewers. He was their special advisor for baseball operations and had been Major League Baseball’s youngest scouting director at one point. His family is also deeply rooted in baseball; his brother Perry is the GM for the Los Angeles Angels, and Calvin runs clubhouse operations for the Atlanta Braves.

New Leadership Dynamics:

Posey, only 37 and relatively new to his executive role, will rely on Minasian’s extensive experience to guide him through complex decisions. The Giants wanted someone with strong scouting skills who could also take on a public-facing role while Posey stays more behind-the-scenes.

Fans might think this change brings fresh energy and hope for better seasons ahead.

The Giants didn’t have a great run last season under Farhan Zaidi’s leadership, finishing with an 80-82 record and missing playoffs again. This led to Zaidi being let go after three consecutive postseason misses.
