The San Francisco Giants have placed Jordan Hicks on the injured list due to shoulder inflammation. This move ends his season just one out short of earning additional incentives.
Hicks, 28, signed a four-year deal with the Giants last winter worth $44 million. His 2024 stats include 109 2/3 innings pitched, a 4.10 ERA, and a 4.38 FIP from both starting and relief roles.
Previously with the Cardinals, Hicks was known for his high-velocity sinker as a reliever. Switching to a starter role with the Giants, he adjusted his pitching style for better stamina but saw performance decline over time .
Giants’ Season Overview:
Fans might feel disappointed by this news. Hicks started in 20 games before moving to the bullpen in late July where he struggled with a 4.91 ERA and opponents hitting .340/.415/.532 against him.
As of Friday, the Giants hold a record of 74-79 and have been eliminated from playoff contention. They’ve gone 6-11 since August 31st.
