Four MLB Managers Already on the Hot Seat for 2025

The start of another MLB season is just around the corner, and you know what that means – time to figure out which managers might already be sweating about their job security.

Let’s be honest: managers getting fired is just part of baseball. They get the credit when teams win and take the blame when teams lose. That’s the deal when you have one of the most coveted jobs in sports.

I’ve picked out four skippers who seem to be under the most pressure heading into the new season. This doesn’t mean they’re definitely getting canned before Opening Day 2026, but their situations are worth keeping an eye on.

Remember, things can change quickly in baseball. Now, let’s dive in.

1. John Schneider, Toronto Blue Jays

The Blue Jays are on the edge of a major shakeup. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette – the faces of the franchise – could both walk after this season, and they might not be the only ones packing up.

Schneider’s contract has a team option for 2026 that probably won’t get picked up if the Blue Jays have another disappointing season.

To put things in perspective, Schneider has won 52.5% of his games as manager. His predecessor, Charlie Montoyo, had won 52.3% when he got fired.

2. Ron Washington, Los Angeles Angels

Washington is MLB’s oldest manager by far, and he was always likely to be a short-term fix for the Angels. He’s now entering the final year of his contract, and it’s fair to wonder if he’ll even make it through the whole season.

Part of the problem is that the Angels are expected to lose a lot again – reaching .500 would actually be their best finish since 2015.

The other issue? This team burns through managers like nobody’s business. Washington is their fourth manager since 2019. Chances are good they’ll be hiring number five before next season starts.

3. Oliver Marmol, St. Louis Cardinals

The projection systems actually give the Cardinals a decent shot at a winning season. So why is Marmol on this list?

He’s entering the second-to-last year of his contract, which means he could become a lame duck manager heading into 2026 if he doesn’t get an extension.

The bigger factor might be that the Cardinals are transitioning power to new executive Chaim Bloom, who might want to bring in his own guy to manage the team.

Of everyone on this list, Marmol’s situation could go in the most different directions.

4. Bud Black, Colorado Rockies

Black’s staying power is truly mind-boggling – he’s the naked mole rat of baseball managers. He’s somehow heading into his 18th season as a big league skipper despite winning less than 47% of his games.

Even though it’s easier than ever to make the playoffs these days, he’s only guided two teams to October, and none since 2018.

It would be unfair to blame the Rockies’ problems on Black. Still, he’s enjoyed job security in Colorado and San Diego that’s usually reserved for legendary managers or part-owners in the old days.

I’m including Black on this list, but honestly, he’ll probably get tired of managing the Rockies before they get tired of him.
