Matt Bush, once a top MLB Draft pick, got into trouble for driving under the influence after an accident in Arlington, Texas.
Police tried to stop Bush’s 2023 Lincoln Aviator on Friday because he was driving all over the place on Pioneer Parkway. But he managed to escape and then crashed. According to reports, he ran a red light and hit a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado and two other cars waiting at the light.
Witnesses saw Bush get out of his car and try to run away. However, several people caught up with him and held him until the police arrived.
Charges and Hospitalization:
Both Bush and the Silverado’s driver went to the hospital with injuries that weren’t too serious. Police suspected right away that Bush was drunk during the crash. He refused a sobriety test and didn’t talk about what happened. Not long after, he was taken to jail in Arlington for DWI, causing injury in an accident, and trying to escape arrest.
Fans might think this is another sad chapter in his life story.
Bush was picked first overall by the Padres in 2004, even before Justin Verlander! Over time, though, alcohol-related problems plagued him. He was traded to Toronto but eventually let go by them too. In 2012, another drunken crash led him to prison for hurting a man on a motorcycle in Florida; his blood-alcohol level back then was 0.18.
He served most of his prison sentence—39 out of 51 months—and got out in 2015. His last MLB appearance? With the Brewers in 2023.
