Ex-MLB Announcer Brennaman Returns to TV for College Football

Thom Brennaman is coming back to broadcasting this fall.

The former Reds announcer has been picked up by the CW network to be their main voice for nationally aired college football games this season. He will start on August 31 with the Oregon State vs. Idaho State game.

In 2020, Brennaman was sidelined after a hot mic caught him using a homophobic slur during a broadcast. While apologizing on-air, he famously called a home run by Nick Castellanos, creating an unforgettable meme moment .

Thom’s Departure and Return

Right after the incident, the Reds took Brennaman off air immediately. A month later, he resigned even though it was clear he wouldn’t be returning to the team. “There are no words to describe how grateful I am that they’re rolling the dice,” Brennaman shared about his new opportunity. “They don’t have to do this.”

Fans might think it’s surprising that he’s getting another chance so soon.

Thom’s career began in 1988 and he has worked with teams like the Cubs, Diamondbacks, and Reds while also doing national broadcasts for baseball and football.
