Yoshinobu Yamamoto is set to make a comeback for the Dodgers after his triceps injury. He’ll start with a rehab game for Triple-A Oklahoma City on Wednesday, aiming to return to the main team soon.
Yamamoto hasn’t pitched since June 15 due to triceps tightness during a game against the Royals. He mentioned feeling the tightness while warming up but didn’t think it was serious initially.
“I did have tightness and I was aware of it [during the bullpen session], but it wasn’t serious at that point. As I was pitching, it started growing,” he told reporters at the time. “I let [the] coaches know, and we decided to pull me.”
Dodgers’ Pitching Woes:
Before getting injured, Yamamoto showed why he got a 12-year deal worth $325 million from the Dodgers. In 14 starts, he had an impressive 2.92 ERA and a solid strikeout-to-walk ratio of 4.94.
The Dodgers’ rotation has been plagued by injuries all season long. They are still missing key players like Tyler Glasnow, Tony Gonsolin, Dustin May, Emmet Sheehan, River Ryan, and top prospect Nick Frasso. However, Clayton Kershaw and Walker Buehler have made comebacks this summer with mixed results.
Fans might feel hopeful seeing Yamamoto’s return as a turning point for their team’s pitching struggles.
Currently holding a record of 78-54 this year, the Dodgers lead the National League West by three games over both Arizona Diamondbacks and San Diego Padres.
