The Dodgers have lost another player to injury.
Outfielder Teoscar Hernández had to leave Friday’s game against the Cleveland Guardians after getting hit by a Matthew Boyd slider on his left foot. He tried to stay in the game but couldn’t continue. Manager Dave Roberts shared his concerns after the game, saying, “He’s as tough as they come and he could barely move his foot. We’ll give him a couple of days to see how he comes out,” Roberts said after the game (via MLB.com). “… He doesn’t come out of games. Afterwards, the pain typically subsides for him, but it didn’t. It’s concerning.”
Roberts also mentioned that it’s likely Hernández will end up on the injured list, though no official decision has been made yet.
Hernández has been doing well this season with a .266/.331/.488 batting line, including 29 doubles and 28 home runs. The Dodgers signed him for one year at $23.5 million last winter, making him one of their best under-the-radar signings.
Dodgers’ Outfield Situation:
With Hernández out, Andy Pages and Tommy Edman are expected to join Mookie Betts in the outfield. Other options include Kevin Kiermaier, Enrique Hernández, and Chris Taylor. If Hernández is placed on the injured list, James Outman might be called up as an additional option.
Interestingly enough , fans might feel worried about these injuries piling up at such a crucial time in the season.
Hernández’s injury came just hours after pitcher Gavin Stone was placed on the injured list due to shoulder inflammation. Stone had been consistent all season long as their only pitcher making every start. The team is already missing Tyler Glasnow (elbow) and Clayton Kershaw (toe), though Yoshinobu Yamamoto is expected back soon from his shoulder injury.
Friday’s loss dropped Los Angeles to an 84-57 record—a game behind Philadelphia Phillies for best record in baseball and holding a four-game lead over San Diego Padres in NL West standings.
Fans might wonder if these injuries will affect their chances of winning more games this season.
