Freddie Freeman left the Dodgers’ NLDS Game 2 against the Padres due to ankle pain. He had sprained his ankle in September while running bases, and despite treatment, it flared up again during this game. The Dodgers are unsure if he’ll be ready for Game 3.
In Game 2, there was no clear moment when Freeman’s injury worsened. He didn’t bat in the fifth inning and hit a strong line drive caught by Fernando Tatis Jr. before leaving the field. Fans might be worried about how this will affect the team’s chances in the series.
“They told me this is a 4-6 week IL stint, and I’m going to try to do this in a week and play,” Freeman mentioned on Friday. “I’m not going to be hindering, I don’t think.”
Game Adjustments:
To fill Freeman’s spot at first base, Max Muncy moved over from third base while Enrique Hernández took over at third. Before exiting Game 2, Freeman had gone 0 for 2 with a strikeout but performed well in Game 1 with two hits and even stole a base! Manager Dave Roberts humorously noted that Freeman was “certainly medicated” for that game.
Freeman has been remarkably consistent throughout his career, boasting a .282/.378/.476 batting line with numerous doubles and home runs across many games this year alone. His durability is impressive; he’s played almost every regular-season game since 2018.
What do you think? Will he bounce back quickly or take time to heal?
