Dodgers Begin Extension Talks with Playoff Star Rumors

The MLB offseason for 2024-25 has been rolling along for over three weeks, and we’re still waiting for a major free-agent signing. This isn’t unusual, as top free agents rarely sign before Thanksgiving. But don’t worry, the action is coming soon.

Dodgers and Edman in Talks

The Dodgers have started talking about a contract extension with Tommy Edman, the NLCS MVP. They got him from the Cardinals in a three-team trade with the White Sox at the deadline. Edman’s set to become a free agent after 2025, but the Dodgers want to keep him longer.

At 29 years old, Edman hit .237/.294/.417 in 37 games with the Dodgers after joining them. He then improved his stats in October with a .328/.354/.508 line. Next year, they plan to move him back to center field from shortstop. His new deal could be similar to Chris Taylor’s four-year, $60 million contract from a few years ago.

Fans might wonder if keeping Edman will be worth it .

Giants Eyeing Sugano

The Giants are checking out Tomoyuki Sugano, who has been an ace pitcher for Japan’s Yomiuri Giants. Back during the 2020-21 offseason, he was posted but didn’t sign with an MLB team and went back to Japan. Now he’s eligible as an international free agent without needing posting.

Sugano is one of Japan’s best pitchers ever! Last season he pitched 156 2/3 innings with an impressive 1.67 ERA. Although his fastball is now mostly in the low-90s range, he has great command and uses many different pitches effectively. At age 35, he might only get a one-year contract but could still be an exciting gamble for teams.

Rockies Add Farmer

After letting go of Brendan Rodgers through non-tendering, the Rockies signed Kyle Farmer on a one-year deal worth $3.25 million according to reports by New York Post (https://x.com/JonHeyman/status/1860327136545943963). With Ezequiel Tovar at shortstop and Ryan McMahon at third base already secured positions on their roster; Farmer seems likely replacing Rodgers at second base instead! In his last season playing for Minnesota Twins where he batted .214/.293/.353 overall – though managed finishing strong scoring .744 OPS over final stretch consisting of fifty-seven games played altogether too!
