Lehman and Yeshiva Finally Break Massive Baseball Losing Streaks
It was a day for the record books as two college baseball teams with a combined 141 consecutive losses both found their way back to the win column.
In a rare doubleheader where everyone walked away happy, Lehman College and Yeshiva University each snapped their painful losing streaks on Tuesday.
Lehman College ended their 42-game drought first, edging out Yeshiva 7-6 in an extra-innings thriller to improve to 1-14 for the season.
Then Yeshiva University, a private Modern Orthodox Jewish school in New York City, finally broke through in the second game. They defeated their nearby rivals 9-5, ending an astonishing 100-game losing streak.
Let that sink in for a moment. One hundred games without a win.
The victory moved Yeshiva to 1-19 for the year and gave them their first taste of success since February 27, 2022, when they swept John Jay in a doubleheader. Lehman’s previous win came more recently, back on May 9, 2023, when they beat Baruch College 7-4.
“I felt a tremendous relief after, when everything ended,” said Lehman’s Justin Chamorro, who pitched a complete game with 13 strikeouts in the opener. “It’s what we needed for our morale.”
Chamorro called ending the streak “crucially important” for his team.
The second game saw Yeshiva jump out early with three runs in the first inning. Lehman fought back to make it 3-2, but Yeshiva responded with a four-run explosion in the third inning to pull away.
Yeshiva catcher Jake Arnow had a day to remember, going 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
“It was a big weight off our chest, I’ll tell you that much,” Arnow said after the game. “The losing streak has been going on for, what, two years already? So, amazing feeling. That’s all I can say.”
After so many defeats, both teams now have something positive to build on. Maybe this unusual doubleheader—where both teams walked away with their losing streaks broken—will spark more success for these programs going forward.
