The Cubs have another player on the injured list.
Colten Brewer broke his left hand after punching a wall in frustration following a bad game. The team announced that he will be on the 60-day injured list and Hunter Bigge has been called up to replace him. Kyle Hendricks also had to leave Saturday’s game against the Angels due to back tightness, adding to the team’s woes.
Brewer was brought in as the first reliever but struggled badly. He gave up three runs (one earned) in just two-thirds of an inning, committing a throwing error that made things worse. He only managed to get two outs out of eight batters faced.

Brewer has had a tough season overall, allowing 16 runs in 20 2/3 innings and struggling in recent games. Tyler Anderson dominated the Cubs with ten strikeouts over eight shutout innings, highlighting Chicago’s bullpen issues this year.
Frustrations Mount for Cubs
The Cubs are having a rough time lately. They started strong with a 17-9 record but have since gone 24-40, holding the worst record in the National League. Currently sitting at 41-49, they are last in their division and six games behind for a wild-card spot with seven teams ahead of them. Fans might think it’s time for some big changes.
Bigge, who was drafted in the 12th round back in 2019, has been performing well with a 0.77 ERA and striking out 19 batters over 11 1/3 Triple-A innings this year.
The Cubs face off against the Angels one more time before hitting the road to play against Baltimore Orioles and St. Louis Cardinals before taking a break for All-Star week.
