Anthony Rizzo got a huge cheer from the crowd when he returned to Wrigley Field for the first time since joining the Yankees in 2021.
In his decade with the Cubs, Rizzo played over 1,300 games and hit 242 home runs. He was also a key player in their 2016 World Series win.

“I loved it,” said Rizzo about playing at Wrigley again. “The fans bring energy every day, just like Yankee Stadium or Fenway.”
Rizzo’s Return:
Even though this was his first game back at Wrigley since leaving the Cubs, Rizzo has faced his old team several times before. This weekend is special because it’s the Yankees’ first visit to Wrigley since 2017.
Fans might think it’s cool seeing him play against his old team.
Interestingly, Mark Leiter Jr., another former Cub now with the Yankees, also made his return to Wrigley Field on Friday. But he didn’t get as much attention as Rizzo did.
