Florida Gators’ Jac Caglianone had a busy Monday in their 5-4 win over North Carolina State in the Men’s College World Series.
Starting as pitcher, he left after one inning, giving up a run on a hit and two walks. His fastball was slower than usual, clocking between 88-91 mph and peaking at 93 mph. This is quite different from his typical upper 90s speed.
Despite this, he shined offensively with a three-run homer right after his pitching stint, putting the Gators ahead 4-1.

Caglianone also got on base twice more through intentional walks. After the game, he said he wasn’t injured and his early exit wasn’t due to any physical issues.
Stats and Performance:
Before Monday’s game, Caglianone had impressive stats: hitting .414/.536/.862 with 33 homers and more walks than strikeouts across 63 games. As a pitcher, his ERA stood at 4.71 with a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 1.71. However, he’s expected to focus on hitting in the big leagues due to command problems on the mound.
Fans might think it’s amazing how versatile Caglianone is despite some struggles.
The Gators’ win means they’ll face off against either Kentucky or Texas A&M next. Unfortunately for NC State Wolfpack, they’re out of the tournament now.
What do you think about Caglianone’s performance?
